Neko is a 10- year-old Alaskan Malamute who came to Canine Rehab Associates on 2/24/17 for a weight loss consult. Prior to his consult, Neko weighed in at 127 lbs and was fed 1.5 beef patties in the morning and 1.5 beef patties in the evening. In addition, Neko was given 5 to 6 variety snap treats per day and would receive a piece of string cheese to take with his medications. Over the past 7 months, Neko received one to two half-hour underwater treadmill sessions with us per week, and his daily food intake was reduced to ¾ of a beef patty in the morning and ¾ of a beef patty in the evening with a piece of string cheese to take with his medications. Not only has Neko lost 14 pounds (now weighing in at 113 lbs), but he is able to jump into the back of his owner’s Jeep again without assistance, negotiate stairs much easier at home, and go on longer walks around the neighborhood with mom.
