General Surgery at Pet Dominion in Rockville
Safety is our top priority. Whether your pet is undergoing a routine procedure or a more complex surgery, our surgical team uses advanced techniques to ensure the highest level of care for your pet. Here’s everything you need to know about what to expect at Pet Dominion:
What to Expect: A Step-by-Step Overview
Before Surgery:
What do I need to do to prepare my pet for surgery?
Don't worry, we will fully prepare you and your pet prior to surgery day. In most cases you’ll drop your pet off between 7:00 and 7:30 AM after fasting them overnight. Upon arrival, a surgical technician will greet you and answer any final questions.
What happens when I drop my pet off?
Our surgical tech will take your pet in, conduct a brief check-in (including some reassuring scratches), and review any last-minute details. We always run bloodwork to ensure your pet is ready for surgery.
During Surgery:
What happens during the procedure?
Our goal is to keep your pet as stress-free as possible. Before receiving their premedications, your pet will be resting in a comforting space. Once their calming premeds take effect, we will bring them into the surgical suite.
Here they will be kept comfortable on a heated surgery table and monitored throughout the surgery. Our specialty-trained veterinary surgeons use a laser scalpel, which minimizes pain and promotes faster healing.
Recovery:
How will my pet recover after surgery?
Once the procedure is complete, a designated surgical technician will monitor your pet during recovery. A team member will contact you with pickup and at-home care instructions.
Can my pet receive additional treatments for recovery?
Yes! For faster healing and added comfort, we offer laser therapy and acupuncture to enhance recovery. Our canine rehabilitation therapy (CRT) page has more information on how these treatments can support your pet's healing process.
