Orthopedic Surgery: Advanced Care for Your Pet

We are a team of pet lovers, so we know what it means to find a veterinary practice that we can trust. This is one of the reasons we have a board-certified surgeon on our team for orthopedic and complex surgeries. We don't want to refer you out; we want to maintain the strongest continuity of care for your furry friends.

Our dedicated surgical team is committed to providing the highest level of care. We stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine and adopt new techniques and technologies to offer the best possible outcomes for our clients.

With our comprehensive approach, we provide everything your pet needs under one roof—from pre-surgical evaluations to post-operative care, including canine rehabilitation therapy.

Orthopedic Procedures Offered at Pet Dominion:

  • Cranial Cruciate Ligament Repair: Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO)
  • Extracapsular repair of cranial cruciate ligament tears (CCL, ACL) using the Securos system
  • Femoral head/neck osteotomy (FHO) in the treatment of Legg-Perthes disease and hip luxations
  • Procedures to repair medial patellar luxations (MPL)
  • Repair of injuries to other musculoskeletal structures of the body

Each of these procedures is designed to restore mobility and reduce pain. We want to see your pet feeling better as soon as possible too!

How Orthopedic Surgery Works

Orthopedic surgery helps restore your pet’s limbs and promotes healing through techniques like bone plates, pins, screws, casts, or artificial joints. Just like a general surgery procedure, your pet will undergo sedation and receive oxygen during the procedure. Blood work and a health evaluation are always performed beforehand to ensure they are ready for surgery.

Recovery Expectations

After surgery, your pet will need time to recover, both at our facility and at home. Our team will guide you through post-operative care and provide at-home care instructions. Immediately following surgery, rest is crucial. It is important to limit your pet's activity and follow medication instructions carefully.

Many pets benefit from physical rehabilitation following orthopedic surgery. We may recommend canine rehabilitation therapy, which can speed healing time and provide improved results.

Orthopedic surgery improves your pet’s mobility, reduces pain, and enhances their quality of life. Call us or request an appointment if you think your pet might benefit from a surgical consultation!
